History of Playcrafters
Playcrafters History
Playcrafters was first organized in 1949 and was based initially in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, The move to Skippack began in1956. Dage Nilsson bought some land adjacent to his property in Skippack, including the site of an old barn. His son-in-law, John Bitterman Barricks, was a member of Playcrafters and suggested that the barn could be spruced up and made into a theater. The barn conversion required a massive effort and one year later, Playcrafters was ready to present its first production. Harvey opened in the summer of 1957.
The playhouse has been operational ever since and Playcrafters has become an integral part of the Skippack community. The facility has been remodeled numerous times, including a large renovation in the early 2000s. That project included a large addition to the building that now houses modern dressing rooms for our casts.
